By meticulously collecting organic material in each excavated stratified layer and carbon-dating minuscule samples taken from ancient mortar, an interdisciplinary team from the Weizmann Institute and the Israel Antiquities Authority can now lay to rest abiding debates on when ancient Jerusalem structures were constructed. For a change, scientists are stepping out of the laboratory and into the field. It has been dated by three previously prevailing theories of its construction: early Roman before 70 CE , mid-Roman 1st-2nd century as Aelia Capitolina , or even the early Islamic periods, some years later. The reason behind the doubling in size still remains a mystery, IAA archaeologist Dr. Joe Uziel told The Times of Israel. Elisabetta Boaretto in a press release.

A small-necked bottle will generally seal better than a large-necked bottle but either is acceptable. We accept no responsibility for the accuracy of testing results for samples submitted in collection bottles other than those specified. The samples must not be stored or handled in any laboratory or area that uses OR has ever used biomedical or artificially labeled 14C at any time. Water samples that produce activities above pMC will incur extensive costs related to any cleanup necessary, equipment replacement and duplicate analyses required for other samples. We cannot accept seawater samples that have been treated with mercuric chloride HgCl 2 or sodium azide NaN 3 because we do not have the disposal capabilities for these toxic substances. We no longer accept samples that have NaOH or other alkali chemicals added to the sample.

With these three publications, Cheikh Anta DIOP founded the scientific history of the African continent and inaugurated, at the same time, a school of African history. In , the laboratory became fully functional with the installation of the complete "RA14" radioactivity measurement setup from Intertechnique, thanks to the Atomic Energy Commission CEA from Saclay, in France. The foundations of the laboratory were built to support an additional floor because Cheikh Anta DIOP had planned from the beginning of the project, to develop and widen the activities of this laboratory.
Radiocarbon is the main international journal of record for research articles and date lists relevant to 14C and other radioisotopes and techniques used in archaeological, geophysical, oceanographic, and related dating. As of , Radiocarbon is published by Cambridge University Press. The journal is published quarterly. Radiocarbon also publishes conference proceedings and monographs on topics related to fields of interest.
