Several reasons. First, many young people are obsessed with their work, and find it hard to find time to do anything else. Second, many people race from their jobs to their homes, and don't take the time to look around for compatible people to date. Third, there's the geography aspect: you live in Brooklyn and the person you're interested lives in New Brunswick--it would be very hard to date. Fourth, a lot of folks travel pretty constantly, partly for their work and partly for other reasons, making it hard to pin down days to hang out with others. It's not difficult, it's that you don't know much about the other gender and you're probably intimidated by them.
