The climate in the Azores is affected by their location in the Atlantic Ocean, by the Gulf Stream and by their latitude as well. Some have even gone so far as to suggest that the climate in the Azores is perfect! In the summertime its warm, in the winter its mild, there is rainfall in moderation and only occasionally do storms hit the islands in the summer, with the odd rough winter day being the only negative climate issue. Because of the attraction of the weather, the islands have become something of a hotspot for expat retirees. You will experience few harsh extremes and sufficient rainfall to ensure your garden and the surrounding countryside is always lush, verdant green.

I know everyone is all about the hot springs in Iceland, but there is a European destination where you can find some of the best thermal waters in the world. This string of islands are some of the most lush, green you will find anywhere on the planet and a very popular destination for European tourists but not as much for American tourists. On my vacation to the Azores, it was so surreal to see boiling water at every turn as we explored the town of Furnas. Because of their location, the Azores Islands have fairly mild weather.
Ponta Delgada is a good spot to go in the evening if you are looking for something to do and a bit of night life. For the most part, the Azores Islands, including Sao Miguel, do not offer a large variety of nightlife. That said the larger towns will generally have often attract some people, especially in the summer and when festivals or other celebrations are on. After a day of relaxing at the beach, or touring around the island, or participating in some other activity like golf or sailing, I always enjoy visiting Ponta Delgada for the evening.
