Conservative internet publisher Andrew Breitbart , the man behind investigations that led to the resignations of New York congressman Anthony Weiner and government official Shirley Sherrod, has died aged 43 in Los Angeles. He was walking near his house in Brentwood shortly after midnight when he collapsed, his father-in-law Orson Bean told the Associated Press. Someone saw him fall and called paramedics who tried to revive him.

Alas, I think there is quite a bit to say for what Breitbart is claiming. Certainly, libertarians — even those who are hostile to conservatives — must recognize that Obama and the progressives are the great threat now. And I think, as compared to , libertarians tend to get this. It is true that, even if the Republicans and conservatives win the Presidency, the Senate, and the House, they would likely achieve less than one would hope. But that is, one must admit, the reality of politics. Change is gradual. Libertarians are in a tricky situation.

Some prominent right-wing groups say they will not attend a major Republican gathering in Washington next month, objecting to the presence of gay groups and other organizations whose aims they say are incompatible with conservatism. An estimated 10, people are expected to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, to hear aspiring presidential candidates and vote in one of the first straw polls of the cycle. Among its complaints: A new gay conservative group has been invited for the second year in a row, and CPAC has refused to schedule a panel about traditional marriage. DiPasquale said the group has received more requests from would-be speakers, many of them newly elected House and Senate Republicans, than it will be able to schedule.
